Llanberis is home to the largest mountain in Wales, Snowdon and also the largest appetites! Days spent climbing and walking leaves every adventurer absolutely hungry, famished and in need of a hearty meal.

So this blog post aims to let visitors in on the best-kept secrets of where to wine and dine, snack, and refuel and buy groceries if you are in self-catering accommodation in LLanberis.

Starting with where to eat in Llanberis

Breakfast

Let’s start with breakfast. There are a few options to choose from but the below list of eateries cater for every different need and pallette.

If you are after a large no-nonsense fry up before tackling Snowdon try Pete Eats on Llanberis High Street and go for their super large breakfast and a large mug of tea or coffee. Famous for being the place where climbers and adventure seekers come to fuel up before venturing out.

For vegans and vegetarians, coffee and food lovers a must-visit is Mafon, a few doors down from Petes. try their oat latte and a pistachio cake and you will not be disappointed.

For a lovely Welsh breakfast in a cosy cafe try Pantri again on the High Street further down from Petes and Mafon. Welsh sausages, black pudding in a wonderful setting makes this a great start to your day.

Lunch

Lunch for visitors usually means pack ups and lunch boxes but where to buy your food for the mountains? The one-stop shop that all visitors tend to go is the local Spar for either their meal deal of a subway sandwich but there are other choices. Pantry do takeaway lunch boxes full of Welsh local produce as do Mafon. Their are various supermarkets close by in Bangor (Tesco being the closest) and a Morrisons in Caernarfon. You can find a Waitrose just over on Anglesey in Menai Bridge.

Pizza

Pizza has its own mention here as there are two great pizzerias walkable from Llanberis.

The first and closest is Gallt Y Glyn located on the edge of Llanberis. Order the base of a Margherita and then build your pizza from a huge list of toppings. The beer on draft here is always nice and chilled with a great atmosphere. *At the time of writing the restaurant is closed due to COVID as is the adjoining accommodation but pizza is available for takeaway.

Secondly is the newly opened Fricsan Bakehouse located a short stroll to the neighboring village of Cwm Y Glo. Using organic produce where possible The Bakehouse is a great spot for alfresco dining with its outdoor seating area.

Kebab

*Located just outside The Fricsan and worth a special mention is The Cube. It may be a small pop up takeaway hut but its kebabs are huge and monumental is taste. The owner makes his own kebabs and garlic sauce. Make sure to get the chips too!

Dinner

At the end of your day of adventure, you’ll need a good dinner. Below are a list of eateries in Llanberis that should fill you up.

If you fancy a good Indian restaurant try Spice of Llanberis. Walkable from all parts of Llanberis so after a curry and a few beers you can easily do the walk home.

For a 5 course meal make sure to visit Peak Restuarant which is famed for its local seasonal produce cooked with flair by a signature chef. This food is really something special and for prices that are very reasonable. Make sure you book as far in advance as possible.

The Royal Victoria Hotel is a beautiful listed hotel set high above Llanberis. I once had the best seafood pasta there and every time they serve I have to go back for more, luckily we only live around the corner! On Friday and Saturday nights their menu is seasonal and truly delicious. Sunday night is a more relaxed bar menu, midweek the same. Try and get a window seat overlooking the garden and book before you go.

Before and after Snowdon!

A special place of mention is Penceunant Isaf which is located up the hill from Victoria Terrace on the way to reach the Llanberis Path to Snowdon’s summit. For a coffee and a Barra Brith before your climb or a well deserved local Welsh Ale for your journey back, be sure to stop here as it is well worth the experience and a chance to meet the wonderful owners.
