Crashpad Lodges Group Accommodation Snowdon
Dear followers and subscribers I would like to begin this blog post by saying a massive thank you for following Crashpad, for all the reviews, the likes, shares, comments and to those that choose to make Crashpad Lodges their basecamp to explore Snowdon since we opened for business in 2014. Here’s a few of our guests that came to stay in 2019 and the picture of the most filled outdoor drinks cooler of the year, good effort!
A few pictures sent in from our 2019 guests
Almost every penny made from opening our doors back in 2014 we have invested back into Yr Helfa, the building from where we run Crashpad Lodges. Yr Helfa translates from Welsh to English as “The Gathering” which is exactly what Yr Helfa provides, group accommodation close to Snowdon in the village of Llanberis for friends, ,families and groups to gather. Because of your business we have been able to restore Yr Helfa and welcome it into 2020 as an exciting unique place for adventure. So thank you and if Yr Helfa could thank you too I’m sure it would.
And if you are new to this blog or have just come across Crashpad Lodges let me take a few minutes to introduce to what this business is about. Josh and I set up Crashpad Lodges in 2014 by drafting a business plan and getting knocked back by the big banks 4 times. 23 more business plan drafts later (which I still have on my computer, I’m Lynsey by the way) we finally managed to secure the finance to purchase the lodge. Then the hard work really began. Renovations, off grid installation, gravity feed water systems and running a lodge was all new. Fast forward 6 years and we are still here, still investing, still learning and loving every minute.
January of every year we spend a month staying at the Lodge. For 2 reasons, 1/ because we love being there and 2/ to carry on the renovation work so that every year it is improved for guests returning and new guests alike and so I am writing this blog post looking out of the window next, my view being very similar to the picture below.
Crashpad Lodges taken from the Llanberis Path which leads to the summit of Snowdon
So what would you expect if you decided to book your adventure with Crashpad Lodges? On arrival you would be greeted by one of the team close to the start of the Llanberis Path (which is one of the paths that takes you to the summit of Snowdon) and taken to a parking spot. From there you can either choose to walk (which is approximately a 15 minute easy scenic walk) whilst your luggage is driven down, or be driven to Crashpad by vehicle.
Once at Crashpad Lodges you will arrive at a 18th century renovated mountain lodge sleeping 16 in 3 bedrooms which is occupied solely by you and your party. 3 large bathrooms all with showers and a fully equipped bespoke kitchen. A large dining area and a separate lounge/snug area. View from all windows are across the mountains and towards the sea. Outside is a fire pit, a large drinks cooler and a BBQ. As Crashpad is completely off-grid there maybe some upkeep for our guests to maintain but nothing we think is too difficult.
Crashpad Lodges is nestled on the foothills on Snowdon, with no near neighbours apart from the local farm sheep and cows, the buzzards and the millions of stars in the sky on a clear night. This area is a dark sky reserve meaning no to very little light pollution so don’t forget your binoculars or download this amazing app which lets you in real time what every star and planet is by holding your phone up to the sky. It is amazing…

Access to Snowdon can be taken directly from Crashpad to the Llanberis Path which is the easiest route to the summit. Or by walking directly behind the lodges on Moel Cynghorion making your way to the Snowdon Ranger Path . More details on this can be found on these previous blog posts or feel free to contact us if you require any further information or if you would like a guide arranging.
